From the Principal
Recently the LNPS cross country team competed in the Division A, Interschool Cross Country. Students were encouraged to challenge themselves, support fellow teammates and celebrate success in themselves and others. Our students not only did this but surpassed their own expectations. This year the LNPS team competed in Division A on the back of the fact we were victors in Division B last year and came 13th out of 19 teams. This was by no means a disappointing outcome. Congratulations to all competitors but especially to the LNPS team as they did themselves, their families, and our school proud. Thanks again to Mrs Broadbent who prepared the team so well and to all of the officials and volunteers who make these events possible for all competitors.
Last week we were lucky enough to have Trish from NITA Education at our school again. NITA Education provides Tasmanian Aboriginal cultural experiences to all schools and businesses across Tasmania and inspires connection to a 50,000 plus year old culture and encourage young palawa/pakana to embrace their culture while encouraging non Aboriginal people to understand and know our shared history. If you haven't done so, check out some of the interesting activities students were involved in last week, including the session that took place in our Launch into Learning session too. We look forward to having Trish back in our school in 2024 as the feedback from staff, students and parents has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive.
As this week marks week 8 of the term and the fact, we are in the middle of 3-way conversations and reporting to parents, it is timely to thank our teaching staff for their efforts in continuing to maintain a focus on students at the centre. The conversations teachers are having with parents and students are integral to improving learning outcomes and further evidence of our partnership with you. We are aware of the amount of effort every teacher puts into this process and the important work of teaching and learning. If you haven't done so yet, please make a point of thanking your child's teacher for their dedication and their continued efforts with your child or children.

LNPS Cross Country
Congratulations to the 48 students who participated in the Division A Interschool Cross Country carnival on Monday 6 June at Bayview Secondary College.
All students gave their best and represented the school with pride. Pippa won her Year 3 Interschool event in true LNPS style! Our students’ determination on the day gained us a creditable 13th place out of 19 schools. An excellent job after moving up a division from the previous year. Many thanks to Russ and James for being our parent volunteers. Also, a big thank you to families for supporting their child/children to arrive at school early for training.

Dogs on the School Site
We recently had an incident on the school grounds where a child was injured by a dog.
The fenced area of the school playground has signs stating “no dogs allowed on school grounds” which most members of the community follow, but dogs are prohibited on the total of the school site. Please note that the Department for Education, Children and Young People land is bound by the following landmarks – Derwent Avenue, East Derwent Highway, De Bomfords Lane and the River Derwent and this area forms the school grounds.
The following information is from the Clarence City Council website
The Clarence City Council states that prohibited areas defined under the Dog Control Act 2000 are:
- Any grounds of a school, preschool, crèche or other place for the reception of children without the permission of the person in charge of the place
- Any shopping centre or any shop
- The grounds of a public swimming pool
- Any playing area of a sportsground on which sport is being played
- Any area within 10 metres of a children's playground
Please do not bring your dogs onto the school grounds at all. The school acknowledges that most community members are responsible dog owners but this request is to keep our school safe for our students.
Winter Wellness
The cooler months bring colds, the flu, COVID-19 and other illnesses. Being prepared is the best way to protect yourself and your family.
Prepare
Children are most likely to catch and spread the flu. Make sure your child has received their annual flu vaccine. This will boost their immunity against most likely circulating flu strains. It will also help stop them getting very sick.
Plan
If your child is at higher risk of becoming very sick from the flu, COVID-19 or other respiratory illnesses, make a plan with your healthcare provider for when your child becomes sick.
Protect
Protect others by keeping your child home if they’re unwell, encouraging regular hand washing, and covering coughs and sneezes.
For more information, read the parent and carer factsheet or visit the Department of Health website.
Thanks for doing your part to keep our school community safe, healthy and learning.

Levy Payments
Thank you to those families that have paid their levy accounts in full or who are making instalment payments. If you haven’t yet paid your levies, payment would be appreciated as soon as possible. Please ensure when paying your child/ren’s account that you use the online code that relates to each child. Each child has an individual number.
The Student Assistance (STAS) scheme provides assistance for low income families towards the cost of levies. If you feel you may qualify for STAS please call 1800 827 055.
SRC News
Thank you to everyone who wore yellow on Friday 2 June and donated to “Wear it Yellow for Children’s Ground”. We raised $314.
Scholastic Book Club Orders
Book Club orders for Issue 7 will close this Friday, 3 November. You are able to log in to the link below:
and place an order yourself. Your LOOP order will then be activated when the school order is submitted. Orders can still be placed with the form and payment made through the office if you wish, however the preferred method of ordering is via LOOP.
Changes to Bus Zone
The bus zone sign in the slip lane to Derwent Avenue has been changed and now reads ‘Bus Zone 8am – 3:30pm’. It can be used as a drop off zone, provided that there are no buses using the area. However, you are unable to park and leave your car there. Thank you for your co-operation.
Lost items of jewellery
We have several pieces of jewellery handed in to the office (necklaces and earrings). If you or your child has lost any jewellery please check in at the office.
